low mileage and nicely refurbished
1987 Toyota Pickup
Classic 4x4 is excited to present this refurbished, low-mileage 1987 Toyota Pickup 4x4 with Back to the Future tribute livery. "Great Scott!" Driven only 87,837 miles in the past 38 years, it's no surprise this truck shows exceptionally well, finished in black with a gray interior. Power is sourced from the iconic Toyota 22R inline 4-cylinder gas engine, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a dual-range part-time four-wheel-drive transfer case with manually locking front hubs. The legendary Toyota 22R engines are known for their longevity and reliability, often reaching 200,000 or more miles before needing a rebuild. It rides comfortably with independent front suspension, power brakes, power steering, and an Alpine digital media stereo with Bluetooth. The known minor cosmetic imperfections and systems deficiencies are mentioned below, pictured in the gallery, or disclosed in the Lemon Squad inspection report. The truck has a clean Idaho title in the current owner’s name and is located in Boise, Idaho. This Toyota would make Marty McFly envious and is ready to turn heads and conquer all terrains.
History
Known as the Hilux in international markets, Toyota introduced the first-generation Pickup to the United States in 1968, spanning five generations through 1994.5. The fourth-generation Toyota Pickup was produced only from 1984 to 1988. Being prominently featured alongside the DeLorean time machine in the blockbuster movie Back to the Future, it is known as the most famous generation.
This Standard trim package, regular cab, short bed Toyota Pickup was built in April 1987 and sold new in California. As per the clean CarFax and AutoCheck reports, it is accident-free with only four owners and 87,837 miles in the past 38 years. The first owner's 35-year tenure was from February 1988 to March 2023 in California. It was acquired by the second owner, Peterson Toyota, relocated to Boise, Idaho, in March 2023, and used as a vintage-themed display vehicle in their showroom. The third owner, the current owner's brother, purchased it from Peterson Toyota in May 2024. It was subsequently acquired by the current owner from his brother in June 2024 and has remained in his collection in Boise, Idaho.
Exterior
The body presents itself impeccably, finished in black. The paint shows exceptionally well with shine and depth, and the body and frame are free of any major imperfections. The exterior was refinished in black under prior ownership, at which time it is believed the Back to the Future tribute livery modifications were installed. The front and rear gloss black tube bumpers, matching gloss black bed-mounted tube roll bar, gloss black face and chrome barrel modular wheels, six KC HiLiTES with retro covers, and Statler Toyota license plate frames were installed to replicate Marty McFly’s, the main character played by Michael J. Fox in the Back to the Future movie, fourth-generation Toyota Pickup. The 15-inch replacement wheels roll on 30 x 9.5 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. The known notable cosmetic imperfections are a small ding on the hood, a small crack in the paint on the driver’s door, and a wiper scratch on the windshield, shown in the gallery and noted on the inspection.

Interior
The interior presents itself exceptionally well, finished in gray. The factory bench is finished in gray tweed with matching vinyl boxing and accompanied by a coordinating dashboard, door panels, and carpet kit. Given the above average condition of the interior, it is assumed to have been refurbished under prior ownership when the body was refinished and tribute livery modifications installed. Tunes radiate from a modern Alpine digital media receiver with Bluetooth, USB input, and updated speakers. Under current ownership, the original gauge cluster was refurbished, and the temperature gauge was replaced. The known notable cosmetic imperfections are some minor cracking above the upper dash altimeter and leveling gauges and a small crack on the passenger side door armrest, shown in the gallery and noted on the inspection. The known systems deficiencies are an inoperable horn and the heat only flows to the defroster, noted in the inspection.

Mechanical
The truck is in excellent running and driving condition; it starts, idles, drives, steers, and stops well and as it should. The original 22R 2.4L inline four-cylinder engine is mated to the G52 5-speed manual transmission and RF1A gear-driven dual-range part-time four-wheel-drive transfer case. Power is sent to the wheels through a 4.10 geared constant velocity front axle with Aisin manual front locking hubs and a G292 4.10 geared 8-inch 2-pinion solid rear axle. The front independent and rear leaf spring suspension appears to have been updated under previous ownership. Stopping power is provided by factory power brakes with front discs and rear drums. Responsive steering is produced by factory power steering. Under current ownership, a new Weber carburetor and gold-colored engine dressings were installed, and the spark plug wires, spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and exhaust manifold were replaced in September 2024.
