Classic 4x4 is proud to present this restored and modified 1979 Chevrolet K10 Short Bed. No detail was overlooked during the restoration of this iconic 4x4 — representing the perfect blend of original heritage with modern comforts and drivability.
Finished in striking Nardo Gray with satin black accents, this K10 commands attention while staying true to its heritage. Inside, the custom TMI Products interior is finished in black vinyl with red French-stitched seams. Red seatbelts and black ultra-plush cut-pile carpeting and floor mats complement the interior. Modern comforts include Dakota Digital instrumentation, Old Air climate control air conditioning and heating, Retro Sound stereo with Kenwood speakers, and power windows.
Power comes from a replacement performance-tuned and fuel-injected General Motors 5.3L 8-cylinder LH9 LS Vortec 5300 engine with a Stage One camshaft. The modern engine swap is paired to a General Motors 6L80 6-speed automatic transmission and New Process 205 twin-stick dual-range transfer case. General Motors 10-bolt 8.5-inch front axle with Mile Marker locking hubs and 12-bolt 8.875-inch rear axle deliver legendary four-wheel-drive capability. Improved drivability and performance come from the modern powertrain, power brakes, and power steering.
This restored and modified 1979 Chevrolet K10 Short Bed is a true tribute to the legacy of classic GM trucks — seamlessly blending vintage charm, rugged 4x4 capability, and modern enhancements.
Whether you are a serious collector, an enthusiast seeking a quality example, or someone who appreciates a trail-ready icon, this K10 represents a rare opportunity to own a standout piece of American automotive history.
History
Introduced by General Motors in 1973, the third-generation Chevrolet and GMC trucks remained in continuous production for 18 years until 1991 — making them one of the most iconic and collectible trucks ever produced. Though formally referred to as the “Rounded Line” by General Motors, enthusiasts nicknamed them the “Square Body”. Initially introduced with the C/K Series moniker denoting two- and four-wheel drive, General Motors changed the moniker to the R/V Series in 1987. Square Body K10s are celebrated for their rugged simplicity and timeless design.
This 1979 Chevrolet K10 Short Bed was built at the Flint, Michigan Assembly Plant, having spent most of its life in Kentucky, Indiana, and New Jersey. Added to the prior owner’s collection in 2000, it underwent a comprehensive cosmetic restoration and powertrain modification with comfort and drivability upgrades. Acquired in June 2026 and added to the current owner’s prominent classic 4x4 collection, it underwent a restyle and maintenance regimen while being driven as their summer daily driver.
VIN Decode:
C - Chevrolet | K – 4-Wheel Drive | L – 5.7L V8 Engine | 1 – ½-Ton | 4 – Cab and Pickup Box | 9 – 1979 Model Year | F – Flint, MI Assembly Plant | 310882 – Serial Number
The K10 holds a clean and clear New Jersey title in the current owner’s name and is located in Belmar, New Jersey. The replacement odometer reads approximately 3,723 miles, representing the mileage accumulated since restoration; true mileage is unknown. Two ignition keys are included in the sale.
Exterior
The exterior presents exceptionally well, with impeccable design elements. The body is finished in Nardo Gray with satin black accents. For added protection, the lower rocker panels are finished in body color matching bedliner. The bed is finished in black Line-X bedliner and the underbody and frame are undercoated in black. Notable exterior upgrades include a One Piece Products flush fit back glass slider window, roll pan rear bumper with two-inch tow hitch receiver, and Custom Deluxe trim badging.
The K10 sits confidently on a four-inch suspension lift with 35 x 12.5 R17 BFGoodrich KO2 T/A All-Terrain tires mounted on 17 x 9 satin black powder-coated Vision Cheyenne 54 wheels — delivering an authentic look and stance.
Interior
The custom-designed interior presents exceptionally well, while balancing vintage aesthetics with tasteful upgrades. The TMI Products Pro Series Sport split back bench seat, dash pad, door panels, and shifter boots are finished in black vinyl with red French-stitched seams. The interior is further complemented by red retro buckle seatbelts and black ultra-plush cut-pile carpeting and floor mats over Kilmat thermal and sound insulation.
The cabin maintains a custom look while providing modern comfort upgrades that include Dakota Digital RTX instrumentation, Old Air climate control air conditioning and heating system, Retro Sound receiver with Kenwood speakers in custom kick panel enclosures and power windows.
Mechanical
The replacement powertrain components deliver upgraded drivability, reliability, and capability with exceptional style and performance. The engine and transmission were reportedly sourced from a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4 with approximately 88,000 miles. The 2010–2012 LH9 is a desirable swap due to its variable valve timing, but does not feature the problematic active fuel management system that plagued other LS engines of its generation.
During the restoration, the engine was reportedly resealed, an upgraded Stage One camshaft was installed, and the new standalone harness was performance-tuned. In addition, the engine was dressed with a new black satin powder-coated engine cover and pulleys, exhaust manifolds, and a custom dual exhaust. The transmission, dual-range transfer case, and axles were reportedly rebuilt during the restoration. In addition, the transfer case was converted to a twin-stick allowing the front and rear axles to be engaged individually in different ranges.

Front Axle: GM 10-Bolt 8.5-Inch with Mile Marker Locking Hubs
