History
Introduced by International Harvester in 1971, Scout II production ceased in 1980 after they discontinued “Light Line” vehicle production. Forty-six years later, their short production run, limited availability and the resurgence of the Scout brand has turned the Scout II into one of the most iconic and collectible classic 4x4s. The Scout II continues to be celebrated for its timeless simplicity, rugged capability, and unique design.
This 1978 Scout II rolled off the production line in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 12th, 1978. Under prior ownership in Texas, it underwent a restoration circa 2020 which included refinishing the body and frame, replacing the interior and updating the original mechanicals and systems. The current owner added it to their private collection in 2022 and subsequently commissioned the frame-off LS drivability conversion and modifications by Anything Scout, completed in 2023. Pictures and documentation are available in the gallery.
The Scout II holds a clean and clear Ohio title in the current owner’s name and is located in Columbus, Ohio. The replacement odometer reads approximately 3,759 miles, true mileage is unknown. There are no known mechanical, electrical, structural, or significant cosmetic deficiencies. The factory line setting ticket and original owners manuals are included in the sale.
Exterior
The exterior presents exceptionally well. The previous owner’s restoration was deemed by Anything Scout and the current owner to be well done and did not require further refinishing or repair. Additional modifications performed by Anything Scout included:
